Description

Climate impacts are reshaping economies worldwide, from floods and glacial hazards in the Himalayas to heat stress and extreme weather elsewhere, making resilience a shared responsibility for governments and businesses alike. Nepal’s 2026 floods, triggered by a glacier collapse on 26 August, caused an estimated $2.56 billion in losses to property, housing and infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need to invest in resilience before disaster strikes. The session, “Resilient by Design: How the Private Sector Can Help Build Climate-Resilient Economies,” will use Nepal as a case study before exploring how businesses can invest in climate-resilient solutions and how business-intensive economies can collaborate with climate-vulnerable countries to mobilise investment and strengthen resilience.
