James Chau is an international broadcaster, Host of The China Current and World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador.
He has earned a special reputation for his interviews with leaders in politics, science, and health, including Nobel Peace Prize laureates Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan, and Muhammad Yunus. He has also interviewed Winnie Mandela, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Ban Ki-moon,
Elton John, Christine Lagarde, Paul Kagame, Joko Widodo, Arianna Huffington, and Madam Peng Liyuan among others.
He is Host of The China Current, a digital show that explores the issues shaping the global future including poverty, climate change, and innovation — and how they connect and contribute to social justice. During the pandemic, he has conversed with leaders in the global response including Margaret Chan, Erna Solberg, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Filippo Grandi, Winnie Byanyima, Jeffrey Sachs, Mary Robinson, Jeremy Farrar, and Peter Piot. Previously, he was a news anchor on China Central Television and guest presented on BBC World News.
In 2016, he was appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goals and Health. In 2009, he was the first person to be appointed UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador for China. In these roles, he has moderated international events led by Justin Trudeau, Laura Bush, and Charlize Theron, and high-level meetings at the United Nations including the launch of the Global Action Plan chaired by the Chancellor of Germany, President of Ghana, and Prime Minister of Norway.
Born in London, he studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated from Cambridge University. He serves as trustee and advisor to the Menuhin Competition, MTV Staying Alive Foundation, and Global Health 50/50.
