Cecely Richard-Carvajal is a Senior Associate at Article One, a strategy and management consultancy specializing in business and human rights, responsible innovation, and sustainability. From Article One's New York office, Cecely supports companies with human rights due diligence activities, including conducting human rights impact and country risk assessments, preparing human rights policies, and aligning with emerging regulatory frameworks such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. Drawing on her background as a lawyer, Cecely supports clients in navigating complex and evolving expectations on corporate human rights responsibility.

Before joining Article One, Cecely worked as the Masiyiwa-Bernstein Fellow at NYU Stern’s Center for Business and Human Rights, where she led the Center's efforts to engage with emerging legislative frameworks relating to business and human rights. Cecely holds an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from NYU School of Law, where she specialized in human rights law. Cecely also completed an internship in the Rule of Law Unit in the Executive Office of the Secretary General at the United Nations and provided research support to the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights.

Cecely is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales and, before pursuing her LLM, she worked as an Associate in Clifford Chance’s Project, Energy and Infrastructure team in Paris, advising lenders and sponsors on project financings internationally. Cecely speaks Spanish, French, Russian and English and holds an MA from Cambridge University in Modern and Medieval Languages.
